The Ficcions de Ciència festival will take place from 26 May to 7 June. The festival will take place at the Cinemes Texas in Barcelona.

L'Institut d'Història de la Ciència de la UAB col·labora a la primera edició del festival Ficcions d

The festival explores the interaction between science, society and cinema, and invites different audiences to participate: audiovisual creators, science communicators, researchers, students and the general public. The aim of the project is to use film as a tool to disseminate science, encourage public debate and reflect on current social and scientific challenges.

Participation is open to individuals or legal entities with works produced after 1 January 2020, which are not published and are either short fiction or animation films with a maximum duration of 30 minutes, or short or medium-length documentaries with a maximum duration of 60 minutes. The call for entries will remain open until 15 April through the Festhome platform.

The selected works will receive an award for the best work in the categories Science and Society or Science and Mental Health, with an economic remuneration of €1,000 each.

The works can be fiction, animation or documentaries in which science is a significant part of the context, social dynamics or human conflicts. Thus, the event aims to give visibility to cinematographic works that address science from multiple perspectives: the practical; its social, ethical and emotional implications, and the relationship with other fields such as art, health and society.

In this first edition, the festival will devote special attention to mental health in the Science and Mental Health section, with the aim of reflecting on the emotional and mental complexities of today's world.

In addition, Ficcions de Ciència will offer activities such as workshops, talks and areas of dialogue open to the public to achieve an exchange of ideas and perspectives that can enrich narratives addressing the social and technological challenges of our time. In this way, the festival proposes to connect cinema with science to bring these issues closer to the general public and foster a more informed and committed society.
