The UAB inaugurates the 2022/23 academic year with a conference by Màrius Serra

Màrius Serra is the author of several books and his creations focus on the topics of literature, languages, and games. With a BA in English Studies, he is also member of the Language Section of the Institute of Catalan Studies. He has received several awards for his works, such as the "Ciutat de Barcelona" in the category of fiction (La vida normal, Proa, 1998), the "Serra d'Or" and "Lletra d'Or" (Verbàlia, Empúries, 2000), the "Ramon Llull" in the category of novel (Farsa, Planeta, 2006), and the "Sant Jordi" (Plans de futur, Proa, 2012) award. He is also author of a diversity of books, such as D'on trec el temps (2017), six children's stories illustrated by Roser Calafell which form part of the series Les aventures de la Napeu (Estrella Polar), three fun crime novels starring games expert Oriol Comas which formed part of the series Comas i Coma (Amsterdam and Empúries), the complete version in modern Catalan of the chivalric romance novel Tirant lo Blanc (Proa, 2020) and Quiet (Empúries, 2008), a book portraying his life as he accompanied his disabled son. He worked with Oriol Comas to compile the set of board games Verbàlia, el joc (Devir, 2008) and the game Enigmàrius (2012).

His works have been translated into Spanish, Italian, Romanian, Polish, Korean, German and English, and he himself has translated into Catalan some of the works of Edmund White, Tom Sharpe, Groucho Marx, Jayne Anne Philips, Matthew Kneale, Joe Brainard, Tom Stoppard and Henry Miller. He was awarded the 16th Crítica Teatral de Barcelona 2006-2007 Award for his translation of Arcàdia by Tom Stoppard, performed at the National Theatre of Catalonia. Màrius Serra also works closely with the media. Since 1990 he has been a columnist and head of the crossword puzzles in Catalan published in La Vanguardia and, since 2006, he presents the "L'enigmàrius" section of the morning talk show El matí de Catalunya Ràdio.
