The UAB awarded certification of compliance with the National Security Scheme for its ICT systems
The UAB has obtained the official certification of the National Security Scheme (ENS) that accredits the prevention work carried out by the institution in the field of information and communication technologies (ICT). This is the first time that a Catalan university has been awarded this recognition, which places the UAB as one of the leading universities in computer security in Spain.
The certification does not imply that the University's systems are completely secure, but rather that the UAB, aware of the dangers that currently exist in terms of computer security, uses the methods of continuous improvement and evaluation necessary to prevent new threats.
To earn this certification, it is essential to comply with a series of conditions, such as having the different ICT systems necessary for the operation of the institution under control, having a security committee in charge of coordinating IT security, and applying a series of procedures and measures to ensure the necessary guarantees.
The UAB underwent an external audit to obtain this recognition, which is not permanent, but must be renewed. In two years' time, the University will undergo another audit to monitor its ICT security measures. In addition, the UAB conducts its own internal audits and plans to conduct one next year.
The UAB has gone even further in improving its security systems in recent years, given that there has been an increase in attacks not only against university institutions, but against all types of entities. Now the certification obtained places the UAB as a benchmark in this area while renewing its commitment to maintaining security standards.
The accreditation is based on the 2022 update of the National Security Scheme, mandatory for public administrations, which is in line with the international directives ISO 27001 (from the International Organisation for Standardisation) and NIS (Security of Network and Information Systems), as well as with the EU's General Data Protection Regulation and the UAB's own Data Protection Policy.
