On 15 February started both editions of the Debate League: the High School Debate League and the University Debate League. On 15 Monday there was an informative session organized by the Community Involvement Unit at the Faculty of Political Sciences and Sociology, which also collaborated in its organization (especially because of this edition’s theme: Is it necessary to have a minimum of political knowledge in order to vote? The attendants were able to solve any doubts they had about how the Debate League works. The Vice-rector for Students and Cooperation, the dean of the faculty and a professor specialized on the topic attended the session.

On one hand, the High School Debate Leage will take place on 18, 19 and 20 February in the Theatre in l’Àgora Building (Plaça Cívica), and they will debate the theme: Does internet give us more freedom? This league is done through dialectic confrontation in which the teams of students of 4th grade of ESO and Batxillerat of La Franja, Catalonia, Valencia, the Balearic Islands, Andorra, Northern Catalonia and Sardinia debate about a controversial topic. The high schools that compete in this edition of the local phase are Escola El Cim (Terrassa), ISN Les Termes (Sabadell), Institut Celesti Bellera (Granollers), INS Lluís Companys (Ripollet) and Institut L’Estatut (Rubí). The winner of this local phase will advance to the final phase, which will take place on 29 and 30 April in the Universitat Politècnica de València. Last year the winner high school was l’Escola Virolai (Barcelona).

On the other hand, the deadline for the UAB University Debate League ended on 15 February. This edition will take place on 22, 23, 24 and 25 February in the Theatre in l’Àgora (plaça Cívica). Approximately 60 people (16 teams) have signed up, which proves once more this activity’s growth in participation, both in the Bellaterra Campus and the other universities. Most participants are from the faculties of Political Sciences and Sociology, Economics and Philosophy and Arts. The winning team of the internal phase of the debate league will participate in the 2016 University Debate League at the Universitat Politècnica de València, organized by Xarxa Vives.
