Statement in support of La Bressola
The Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona expresses its firm commitment to the defense and promotion of the Catalan language at a time of decline in its social use and minoritisation such as the present. It also defends Catalan as a curricular and learning language in the educational field of Catalonia, as well as linguistic immersion as a tool for social cohesion and promotion.
For this reason, the UAB acknolwedges the important work that La Bressola has been carrying out for almost fifty years in the recovery, normalisation and dignification of Catalan in Northern Catalonia in the fields of language, culture and education. During all these years, La Bressola has worked tirelessly for the Catalan language and culture and for a different and modern quality education in Catalan. In fact, its linguistic immersion school model is innovative and a benchmark for cooperative work and pedagogical renovation.
The UAB expresses its concern for the financial difficulties faced by La Bressola and urges the authorities and administrations of North Catalonia to address them adequately and immediately. It is necessary to continue guaranteeing the success of this educational initiative and its sustainability and viability, working on its consolidation and development. La Bressola is an example of cultural and linguistic resistance, preservation of the Catalan language and promotion of the values of diversity and inclusion. It is a clear example of collective resilience.
The UAB thus reaffirms its institutional support for La Bressola and pledges to continue collaborating in the defense and promotion of the Catalan language and culture and for education in Catalan. It also reaffirms its solidarity with an initiative that transcends borders, and calls on the entire university and educational community to join this collective effort to ensure a promising future for the Catalan language and culture and education in Catalan.
