Second edition of the Bioresearch Workshop
26/05/2016
The Faculty of Biosciences once again has organised the UABio Bioresearch Workshops. The opening session will take place on 6 June at noon at the conference hall of the Faculty of Biosciences, with a conference by lecturer Xavier Trepat entitled “The Forces Behind Cell Migration and Invasion”. The event will include the presence of UAB academic authorities (Vice Rectors for Research and Strategic Projects and the Dean of the Faculty of Biosciences). Dr Trepat, ICREA research professor at the Institute of Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC) where he coordinates the group Integrative Cell and Tissue Dynamics, studies the biophysical mechanisms fundamental to the interaction and communication between cells. Dr Trepat has developed new technologies which, when combined with the computational analysis of cell shape and speed, allow characterising epithelial dynamics during tissue growth, wound healing, and cancer cell invasion.
The workshops aim to make visible the excellent research conducted at the UAB in this field and will include the participation of hundreds of researchers, dozens of oral presentations, poster sessions, and exhibition stands for collaborating companies. Each of the four days will focus on presentations of research contributions by members of the departments most involved in teaching and research in the fields of Bioscience and Biomedicine. On 6 June presentations will be by the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology; on 7 June, by the Department of Animal Biology, Plant Biology and Ecology; on 8 June, by the Department of Cell Biology, Physiology and Immunology; and on 9 June, by the Department of Genetics and Microbiology.
