Once again a total of 432 secondary school students will be participating in educational and leisure activities for two weeks at UAB. Campus Ítaca begins its eighth edition on Monday 6 June. The activity is organised by the Institute of Educational Studies (ICE) and the Faculty of Education and is sponsored by Banco Santander. The purpose of the programme is to encourage students to continue their education once they finish secondary school. This year Campus Ítaca offers twenty financial aid grants for students interested in enrolling in undergraduate courses at UAB next year.

For two weeks students will be participating in different types of activities under the tutorship of university lecturers. They will be working on problem-solving cases, discussing issues and living with other teenagers from different social backgrounds.

The activities for this year's edition include:

  • two-hour workshops in which students will analyse traditional folk tales, practice English, study the composition of materials, create websites and play with mathematics.
  • working on a variety of projects such as creating a video clip, growing food, constructing robots, helping out at archaeological digs, etc.
  • debating issues related to living with people with different origins, trends and prototypes imposed on society by the media, the stage of adolescence, etc.
  • trips to Barcelona and its museums and a treasure hunt for students to discover the UAB campus.

Students will also have the chance to practice sports at UAB's Sports Activities Centre (SAF) and choose from a variety of cultural activities such as theatre, art, music, dance, etc. A short story competition will be open for all those interested in participating.

There are three different sessions; the first lasting from 6 to 17 June, the second from 20 June to 1 July, and the third from 4 to 14 July. Each of the sessions will be made up of 144 students (eight per school) and with an equal amount of girls and boys. The sessions all end with a celebration at Hotel Campus where students can present their projects and will receive prizes and diplomas.
