These prizes are awarded to graduates who completed university studies in Spain in 2007/08 with the highest overall marks in their field. This year with the aim of improving objectivity, the average mark of the academic transcript was weighted with the average mark of the year's promotion.

In addition to academic recognition, the prizes include cash awards. The Ministry awarded 71 first prizes of 3,300 euros each; 71 second prizes of 2,650 euros; and 67 third prizes of 2,200 euros each. The Ministry for Education also granted 87 special awards.
