Macro castellers event in celebration of Ganàpies' 30th anniversary
The Colla Castellera Ganàpies of the UAB, the first human-tower building group that was founded in a university in our country, is celebrating 30 years of existence.To celebrate it, the UAB has organised a huge event that will be held on Thursday 13 March, in which 14 university human tower-building groups will participate.
The macro event on Thursday 13 March will be the first time in the thirty years of the Ganàpies that the UAB welcomes so many people for a human tower-building event like this. The day will allow to enjoy constructions that are rarely seen in university squares. It is expected to be a day of effort, tradition and fellowship, and one of the key moments of the university casteller calendar.
Among their objectives for the celebration, the Ganàpies have proposed to raise important human towers, or castells, with the intention of demonstrating their evolution and consolidation as one of the leading groups in the university sector, after weeks of intense rehearsals. In addition to the technical challenges, this Macrodiada is an opportunity to share values such as collective effort, confidence and self-improvement, essential elements of the casteller world.
The day promises a festive atmosphere full of emotion, with the participation of the 14 university groups: Arreplegats de la ZU, Bergants del CT, Descargolats de l'EEBE, Emboirats de la UVic, Engrescats de la URL, Ganàpies de la UAB, Grillats del CBL, Llunàtics de l'EPSEVG, Marracos de la UdL, Passerells del TCM, Pataquers de la URV, Penjats del CM, Trempats de la UPF and Xoriguers de la UdG.
Tuesday and Thursday training sessions
The Ganàpies rehearse on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm, and on some special days in which specific techniques are discussed or rehearsed before a special event. At the beginning of each academic year, the Ganàpies group and the Community Involvement Unit present the El món casteller activity, where they explain how the tower-building works, the basic safety rules and the imaginary of the castellers, as an introduction for all those interested in participating in one of the most popular groups at the Universitat Autònoma.
The UAB Ganàpies was founded in 1994 and is the oldest human tower-building group founded at university. It was created by a group of students, most of them from the degree in Environmental Sciences.
