The novel Predestinats written by Jesús Castillón Motta, UAB staff member working in the Area of Academic Administration of the Faculty of Education was recently awarded the Gran Angular award. For the jury, the structure of this science fiction novel is surprising and manages to capture readers from the very beginning.

The novel Predestinats by Jesús Castillón Motta, UAB staff member working in the Faculty of Education, has won the 33rd edition of the Gran Angular award. The book, with a cover made by Ignasi Font, is aimed at young people aged 14 and older.

The protagonist of the novel is Aurora, who lives in a future where men have become extinct and society is made up exclusively of women. When the time comes to choose her university studies, she chooses the School of Visitors, a centre surrounded by secrecy, where students are prepared to search for a remedy that will allow them to have male children again.

For Anna Pauner, executive editor of Cruïlla, "the book is a perfect circle that opens with a very shocking event and closes making sense of everything that happens in the story; the structure is surprising and engaging from the beginning".

Jesús Castillón Motta studied at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, where he graduated as a teacher specialising in Music Education. He has won and been a finalist of several literary awards.

An award with 33 years of existence

The Editorial Cruïlla publishing house and the SM Foundation promoted the creation of the Vaixell de Vapor Award 39 years ago and the Gran Angular Award 33 years ago. The objective for which they have continued to be held uninterruptedly has always been the same: the desire to promote the creation of literature for children and young people in Catalan, which encourages, with authentic literary quality, a taste for reading and transmits social and human values.
