The Government of Catalonia has announced that it will award the Creu de Sant Jordi to Isidre Molas, professor of Constitutional Law at the UAB, who was dean of the Faculty of Law and one of the driving forces behind the Faculty of Political Science and Sociology, as well as the Institute of Political and Social Sciences (ICPS).

Molas graduated in Law at the UB and developed his academic career in the Department of Political Science and Public Law. He is a full member of the Philosophy and Social Sciences Section of the Institute for Catalan Studies. He specialises in the history of political parties, a subject on which he is the author of leading works such as the Diccionari dels partits polítics a Catalunya ( Enciclopèdia Catalana).

During Franco's dictatorship, Molas took part in the anti-Francoist militancy and participated in the founding of the Front Obrer de Catalunya and the Partit dels Socialistes de Catalunya, of which he became president. He was deputy and vice-president of the Parliament of Catalonia, as well as member of the Senate. He was also magistrate and president of the Constitutional Court of Andorra.

The Creu de Sant Jordi is one of the highest awards granted by the Government of Catalonia. The award was created in 1981 to distinguish individuals and entities “who, due to their merits, have rendered outstanding services to Catalonia”. This year, this distinction will be awarded to twenty people and ten entities.
