Isidre Gibert re-elected dean of the Faculty of Biosciences
The UAB Faculty of Biosciences has elected Isidre Gibert, professor of the Department of Genetics and Microbiology, as the centre's dean. Professor Gibert, who since 2022 is already the dean of the centre, will begin his second term on 1 March.

The new team is made up of Sònia Casillas, Vice-Dean for Alumni, Employability and Communication and Secretary of the Faculty; Maria Rosario Fernández, Vice-Dean for Economics, Infrastructure and Lifelong Learning; Cristina Santos, Vice-Dean for Studies and Programming; Zaida Sarrate, Vice-Dean for Mobility, Internships and Promotion; and Albert Quintana, Vice-Dean for Quality and Strategic Planning.
Gibert has been a professor in the Department of Genetics and Microbiology at the UAB since 1989 and has taught in the field of microbiology from his first period as assistant professor in the late 1980s to the present. He is head of the Molecular Genetics and Bacterial Pathogenesis research group at the Institute of Biotechnology and Biomedicine (IBB) and his lines of research are in the field of molecular and genomic bases of bacterial pathogenesis and antimicrobial resistance.
Among other responsibilities at UAB, Gibert has been deputy director (2001-2004) and director (2005-2011) of the Institute of Biotechnology and Biomedicine, member of the Research Commission (2005-2010) and president of the Biosafety Committee (2017-2022). Before becoming dean of the Faculty, he was also vice-dean of Economics and Infrastructure (2017-2022). He has also been an elected member of the Senate in two legislative terms and is currently an ex officio member. In 2024 he was part of the drafting committee for the draft of the University Statutes.
Gibert is the first dean of the Faculty of Biosciences to be chosen in accordance with the Organic Law of the University System (LOSU), which establishes that the term of office of the heads of elected unipersonal bodies will be, in all cases, six years, non-renewable and non-extendable.
