"I would love to work on medical advances"
ALICIA ALBALADEJO (Biomedical Sciences). Alicia is the student with the highest mark in the field of biosciences entering the UAB this year. She will be enrolling in Biomedical Sciences with a score of 13.850 over 14. She was born in Albacete and will be living in the Vila Universitària during the academic year.
Apart from studying, Alicia Albaladejo also practices sports. She plays on a volleyball team which travelled to the Canary Islands in July to play in a beach volley tournament. During the academic year, she trains every week with her team. In addition to volleyball, she plays the guitar and the flute.-Why did you choose to come to the UAB?
It is one of the leading universities in biosciences, especially in biomedicine and research. Plus, Barcelona works a lot with biomedical research, so I'm in an ideal place. It's the perfect place to study and then work.
-Why did you choose Biomedical Sciences?
I wanted to study something related to finding cures for diseases, but since I prefer research to medicine, I was more attracted to the idea of innovation and research, and that's why I chose Biomedical Sciences.
-What would you like to do professionally?
I would love to work in a laboratory and work on medical advances which could be important in curing diseases or in creating treatments for these diseases.
-Had you already visited the UAB before enrolling?
I had heard that it was one of the best universities, but personally I had never seen the UAB. This is the first time I am here and I find it all very nice.
-Did you have any doubts about enrolling in a Catalan university, even though you do not speak Catalan?
Well, when I told people I wanted to study in Catalonia they asked me if I hadn't considered other options, that it would be difficult because of the language and so on. But I think I can adapt. It's just another challenge to overcome. I don't see it as a problem. It's just not enough of a reason to stop studying Biomedical Sciences, which is what I really want to do.
-What do you await from your experience at university?
At a personal level, I hope to meet people who have the same interests as I do. As a student, I hope to learn a lot and that the degree will cover my scientific needs and curiosities.
