The Quartet Moana presents its new work under the name Grans(desconegudes) Compositores, a collection of pieces ideal for commemorating International Women's Day at the UAB. On Friday 7 March at 12:00 noon and 4:00 p.m. in the UAB Theatre Hall, various works by lesser-known women composers, who had to fight or are currently fighting to break into a world dominated by men, will be performed.

Grans(descongudes) Compositores is the second project by Quartet Moana, formed by violinists Rubén Herrera and Carlota Novell, violist Sergi Miró, and cellist Clara Manjón. This string quartet, created in 2013, dedicates their current project to women composers, claiming their role in the world of music. Élisabeth Jacquet de La Guerre, Amanda Rotges Maier, Emily Mayer, and Teresa Carreño are some of the composers whose works will be featured in the concert. Despite the position of women in their time, these composers managed to play a prominent role in the history of music.

The programme will consist of Céphale et Procris by Élisabeth Jacquet de La Guerre; String Quartet in A major by Amanda Rotges Maier; String Quartet No.1 in G minor op.141 by Emily Mayer; String Quartet in B minor, III mov by Teresa Carreño, and, to conclude, a selection of short works by contemporary women composers who have contributed to modern music.

With this selection, Quartet Moana aims to bring the works of these women into the collective imagination of the audience, highlighting the importance of representing repertoires from different styles and periods. Additionally, the pieces will be accompanied by brief introductions and explanations that will help the audience better understand them, providing a theoretical and anecdotal framework, making the concert a unique experience for the public.
