The UAB will be holding a new edition of its "Thesis in 4 Minutes" competition, in which PhD students present their thesis during a maximum of four minutes. The deadline for applications has been extended to 21 March 2025. The finalists will be able present their work in front of a panel of judges on 8 May.

Concurs

The competition, aimed at PhD students in scientific disciplines, challenges them to present their research using simple language suitable for a general audience in a maximum time of four minutes. Among the requirements to participate are: to be enrolled at least in their second year of PhD studies at the UAB, not have yet defended their PhD thesis on the day of the competition, and, if chosen winner, to acquire the commitment to represent the UAB in the “Thesis in 4 minutes” competition of the Catalan Foundation for Research, which will take place on 3 July in Girona.

The structure of the competition is divided into two phases. First, applicants must submit their proposals via a web form. Next, a summary of the PhD thesis and a video presentation must be submitted. As for the second phase, those selected by the jury will have to attend a training activity that will take place on 30 April, where they will prepare for their presentation. Finally, on 8 May, the finalists will present their PhD thesis before a panel of judges.

The jury, made up of a representative of the Vice-Rectorate for Research, a representative of the Vice-Rectorate for Communication and Culture, and members of the UAB research staff and the Permanent Board of the Doctoral School, will award the prizes, which include cash rewards. The first prize is €800 and the financing of the winner's trip to Girona, and the second prize is €500. There are also the audience's prize, which consists of €200, and the special Assumpció Català i Poch prize for the promotion and encouragement of the Catalan language, worth €300 (these last two prizes are compatible and cumulative with the jury's prizes).
