The Ministry for Education will propose to the Government of Catalonia the approval of a group of 18 people who will form the group driving measures for educational improvement in the short and medium term. Made up of representatives from the educational community and the academic world, the group has been designed to reflect diversity both at the level of educational stages and of regions, complexity of centres, ownership and disciplinary field, taking into account sectors such as vocational training and experience in linguistic immersion.

Lecturer Digna Couso has been chosen to be part of this group as a teacher with an outstanding track record. Couso is director of the Programme for the Improvement of Initial Teacher Training (MIF) of the Directorate General for Universities. She holds a PhD in Didactics of Science and is director of the Department of Didactics of Mathematics and Experimental Sciences in the Faculty of Education at the UAB. She also participates in the creation of the Educational Research Plan of the Ministry for Education of the Government of Catalonia.

The parliamentary groups and the government, at their meeting on 19 December, agreed that this steering group, once formally appointed, will contribute to working on measures, both immediate measures for the next school year and others for the medium and long term. Its members will begin to deliberate at the start of the second school term and, at the beginning of February, the first conclusions will be sent back to the parliamentary groups. Once the work has been completed, it will be submitted to the parliamentary groups and the School Council of Catalonia (CEC), where other members of the educational community will be present to enrich the debate.
