Conclusion of the 4th edition of the Women for Africa programme in the UAB
The 4th edition of the Learn Africa programme held by the Women for Africa Foundation and the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona has come to a close. The Learn Africa project promotes access to higher education in Spanish universities for women leaders and drivers of change in countries from the African continent. Linda Kamlomo, a science graduate from the University of Malawi, participated in the 2022/23 edition. She specialised in the Master’s Degree in Political Science from the Faculty of Political Science and Sociology at the UAB.
On Friday, September 8th, a meeting was held in the central administration and executive offices of the university, with the Secretary General of the UAB, Esther Zapater, the director of the Fundació Autònoma Solidària, Jordi Prat, and the student Linda Kamlomo, who has completed the 2022-23 Women for Africa programme. This meeting brings Kamlomo’s time in the UAB to an end, and she shared her opinion about the positive aspects of the programme, as well as the challenges she had to face. Her case is unique because she participated in a mobility programme as an international student with her family unit, who moved with her to Terrassa. Kamlomo did her Master’s thesis on the public perception of the government and the corruption problem among citizens in Malawi. Looking forward, she would like to continue research in Political Science and to work as a project assessor for an international organisation in her country of origin.
The collaboration with the Women for Africa Foundation has been renewed for the 2023/24 academic year, and the UAB will welcome a new student for the programme. This student will receive socio-academic accompaniment from the Area for Cooperation and Education for Global Justice of the FAS, as well as a maintenance and enrolment grant from the UAB.
