"Caure To Fall": The story of 50 women who fought against totalitarianism
Caure To Fall, by Helena Tornero, arrives at the UAB with a performance on Wednesday 2 April at 1:00 p.m. at the UAB Theatre Hall. This theatrical proposal, led within the WIRE project, gives voice to some fifty women who opposed the totalitarian dictatorships of 20th-century Europe.

Helena Tornero presents a completely reivindicative and combative play that seeks to give the importance that these women deserve, who, along with men, also had a significant role during the fight against the dictatorships that took place in various countries during the mid-20th century. Places like Greece, Poland, and Spain suffered the effects of totalitarianism, and many people opposed this oppression. Despite what may be thought, women were also part of this opposition. They, the largely forgotten figures in the anti-totalitarian struggle, are the protagonists of this play.
Míriam Escurriola and Ariadna Chillida are the two actresses who bring to life unknown characters such as Maria FerkaBeikou and Halina Mikolajska, two women activist who fought for the freedom and democracy of their countries, Poland and Greece.
Caure To Fall is a product of WIRE, a project coordinated by the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) whose main objective is to "place the role of women, both as agents and victims, at the centre of current historical narratives on anti-totalitarian resistance." WIRE (Women in resistance. Reshaping the narratives on female anti-totalitarian resistance in Europe) includes researchers from Catalonia, Greece, Italy, and Poland, who, along with cultural institutions and victim organisations, are carrying out a great task of spreading the role of these women and telling their stories.
The project has lasted two years and has also worked to create a link between academic knowledge about these women and the "promotion of historical consciousness among citizens."
Helena Tornero highlights that this play is much more than an artistic element, as part of this project has another objective: "to repair the inexcusable ignoring of the women who fought and still fight against totalitarian dictatorships." Tornero wants to make clear that these women have not been treated the same as their male counterparts, which is why she emphasises the importance of projects like WIRE.
