Become a university volunteer!
All members of the UAB community can become university volunteers. With the start of the new academic year, the FAS launches its volunteering campaign, entitled “Més gent com tu fent voluntariat universitari” [More people like you doing university volunteering]. The campaign aims to show the array of volunteering opportunities open to members of the university community. Opportunities that include a large number of social, environmental and healthcare programmes, with activities carried out in prisons, hospitals, primary and secondary schools, on campus, and focused on favouring peace, equality and global justice.
The UAB's Fundació Autònoma Solidària (FAS), in charge of the university's social actions, presented the campaign advert to promote university volunteering and an entire catalogue with volunteering proposals for this 2024/25 academic year.
Under the slogan “Més gent com tu passant a l’acció i fent acció social” [More people like you being active and doing social actions], a new year of volunteering opportunities open for students interested in programmes that take place in prisons, hospitals, primary and secondary schools, and even on campus. More specifically, there are 10 proposals working for the environment, health promotion, equal opportunities, academic sucess, rights of migrants or those seeking refuge. The programmes use the peer-to-peer methodology, group meetings, workshops and participative and awareness-raising activities.
One of the programmes open to volunteers is the Welcome Refugee Programme which aims to contribute to a full inclusion of young asylum-seekers who study or live on campus thanks to this social mentoring programme. There is also the Justice - Prisons Programme which is looking for volunteers interested in carrying out activities in prison centres to help break their isolation and favour their social integration and reinsertion.
How to become a volunteer
All members of the university community who have at least one morning or afternoon per week free, and particularly those interested in learning new things, contributing to social transformation and meeting new people, can participate in any of the programmes.
To be able to volunteer, participants will first receive training and then constant support from the FAS Volunteer Sector. Participants can also validate their volunteering tasks for academic credits.
