Astrophysicist Clàudia Soriano wins the Aerospace Mention of the 2024 ICT Women Awards

UAB PhD student Clàudia Soriano, astrophysics researcher from the Institute for Space Science (ICE-CSIC), was awarded the Aerospace Mention of the 2024 ICT Women Awards of the Government of Catalonia. She received the mention in recognition for her research into the magnetic fields of exoplanets and her tasks as a space science communicator.

The awards ceremony took place on 10 October at the Sala La Paloma, in a festive event organised in celebration of the award's tenth anniversary. The awards are an initiative of the Secretariat of Digital Policies of the Catalan Ministry for Business and Work, in the framework of the Government's Pla DonaTIC and in collaboration with the Catalan Institute of Women (ICD), the Observatory for Women, Business and Economy (ODEE) of the Chamber of Commerce of Barcelona, and the association Tertúlia Digital. The awards aim to recognise the role and talent of women in the field of new technologies and STEM disciplines (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) and provide role models for young girls to encourage them to dedicate themselves and assume leadership positions in the future.

Clàudia Soriano graduated in Physics from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) in 2020. During her undergraduate studies, she participated in research within several groups and institutes at the UAB and at the Institute of Space Science (ICE). She finished her TFG at the Institute of High Energy Physics (IFAE) and then started a master's degree in Astrophysics, Particle Physics and Cosmology at the UB. She is currently a PhD student in the IMAGINE project, where she studies the magnetic fields of exoplanets, and holds the position of events manager at WIA-BCN (Women in Aerospace).She also dedicates part of her time as a science communicator and was the co-founder of the Catalan Association of Physics Students.
