Ana Mar Fernández obtains the Jean Monnet EUGLOB for the UAB
Ana Mar Fernandez Pasarín, lecturer in the Department of Political Science and Public Law, obtained the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence in European Global Policies (EUGLOB) for the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. The project was approved by the European Commission and will begin in the coming months.
The centre aims to broaden knowledge about the European Union as a global actor and law maker in highly politically sensitive areas from three perspectives: to emphasise the historical significance of the EU as a unique political organisation; to disseminate the EU system of governance with special attention to policy making; and to demonstrate the scope and value of European public action through global outreach to enable European and non-European citizens to better understand the meaning of a united Europe.
The project's target audience includes primary and secondary school students, university students, young EU and non-EU researchers, civil society, the media and political elites. In this way, it aims to strengthen the basis of European legitimacy within and beyond EU borders.
This project builds on the work developed by the Jean Monnet Chair in European Policies (EUPOL) since 2018 (Jean Monnet Chairs 2018-2021 and 2022-2025) at the UAB and aims at consolidate it structurally. It is also based on the projects developed by the Institute of European Studies, the Consolidated Research Group on Government and Governance, the Global Intel Research Group, the Jean Monnet Module of EUCONAS (2019-2022) and the European Foreign Policy Observatory.
The project will include the participation of other UAB researchers: Cristina Blasi, Lidia Ballesta, José María de Dios, Javier Ballart, Núria Font, Oriol Costa, Héctor Sala and Colleen Boland. In addition, the aim is to strengthen inter-university collaboration and joint activities already developed by the Jean Monnet EUPOL Chair in the framework of the Spanish Jean Monnet Association, created in 2022 with the aim of strengthening the Jean Monnet epistemic community in Spain, which brings together the UAB, UPF, the Autonomous University of Madrid and the Carlos III University.
