How are plays and a characters prepared? How are dramatic texts read, analysed and interpreted so as to give life to the characters? How is emotion expressed through words? These are some of the questions that will be answered by actors such as Josep Maria Pou, Josep Maria Flotats and Sílvia Munt throughout the year in the 1st Seminar on Interpretation and Creative Process, entitled "Paraula d’actriu – paraula d’actor", organised by the UAB and the Ateneu Barcelonès. The seminar will begin Monday 3 March with actor Josep Maria Pou. The event will be streamed live here.

Josep Maria Pou, Josep Maria Flotats and Sílvia Munt take part in "Paraula d’actriu – paraula d’actor" in which they will debate and reflect on the creation process of theatre plays.

Actors and actresses with renowned careers will talk about how they approach acting and the creative process thanks to the first seminar on the subject, entitled "Paraula d’actriu– paraula d’actor", organised by the Ateneu Barcelonès and the Centre for Research in the Performing Arts of the UAB. It is an opportunity to listen to great masters of the art of acting, learn about their stage experiences and share their ideas about acting creation and its processes.

The first edition of "Paraula d’actriu – paraula d’actor" represents the beginning of the activities of the Seminar for Interpretation and Creative Processes of the Centre for Research in the Performing Arts of the UAB. Conceived in a conversational format, it will be led by actress and writer Àngels Bassas, with the participation of renowned actors and actresses of the country and of great international prestige. The inaugural session on Monday 3 March will feature actor Josep Maria Pou; on 6 May actor Josep Maria Flotats will participate; and on 15 December, actress Sílvia Munt will lead the seminar.

Josep Maria Pou (1944, Mollet del Vallès) is a renowned actor and director who has been awarded several prizes, including the Cross of Sant Jordi in 2017 and the Gaudí d'Honor Award that same year. He is currently the artistic director of the Romea Theatre in Barcelona.

In this first cycle of the seminar, the actors will share their approach to creative processes, always alive on stage - and sometimes so intangible and difficult to define. They will also talk about the strong impact of words, the textual research that the they undertake when facing a text and how to investigate the dramatic text as an absolute and essential source of inspiration and guidance.

They will also answer questions such as: how do you prepare a play and a character, how do you read, analyse and finally interpret dramatic texts so as to embody the characters, how do you connect emotion with words, or how do performers become transmitters and vehicles of the magical power of words and the kinetic actions behind movement and body?

A free event open to the general public, “Paraula d’actriu – paraula d’actor” is aimed at people who conduct research in the performing arts, students of drama or the humanities and related areas of knowledge, but also anyone who goes to the theatre or who has artistic and cultural interests.

The sessions will be broadcast live and recorded and published on the CRAE-UAB and Ateneu Barcelonès websites.

This seminar, conceived by Francesc Foguet, lecturer of Catalan Studies at the UAB, and coordinated by actress and writer Àngels Bassas, is organised by the Ateneu Barcelonès, the Centre for Research in Performing Arts at the UAB, the Department of Catalan Studies at the UAB, the university master's degree in Theatre Studies and the Seminar on Research into Interpretation and Creation Processes at the CRAE-UAB.
