Activity packed Sant Jordi at UAB
On 23 April, Saint George's Day, the Plaça Cívica and the cinema hall of the ETC-Students Building will host a wide range of leisure and cultural activities organised by Cultura en Viu and several different university associations.

Activities will commence at 11 am at the Plaça Cívica with a students associations' market, open until 4 pm, where visitors can buy roses and books and learn about the activities carried out by the associations.
During the morning there will be several artistic performances at the Plaça Cívica. The first being a jazz-funk and fusion concert by UAB's Modern Music Combo, made up of members of the university community under the direction of a professional music conductor.
Following will be the group Silver Lining offering a swing and jazz concert, with the stage set as a typical TV awards ceremony. Silver Lining was elected winner of the latest edition of "l'Autònoma Actua". UAB's dance group and members of first-year dance classes will be the last to offer performances at the Plaça Cívica.
At 4 pm the literature awards ceremony will take place at the cinema hall of the ETC-Students Building. The event will be presented by Bonaventura Bassegoda, Vice Rector for Social and Cultural Transfer. Prizes will be given for the competition on short stories and photographs "Concurs de Relats i Fotografies d'Intercanvi", organised by the Students and Culture group and addressed to students participating in mobility programmes; for the "Premi Literari de Muntanya, Natura i Viatges", organised by the CAU (Alpine University Club); and the literature competition "Concurs Literari Sant Jordi 2012" organised by the ADUAB (UAB Association for the Disabled) for the best poetry or short story on disabilities.
Montserrat Galofré, one of UAB's masters students, will be awarded first prize in the competition "L'Autònoma en 3.000 paraules", organised by UAB's Publishing Services. The prize, worth 500 Euros, goes to her short story Sabem que hi sou, mestres!. The event will end with the presentation of a new comic AIX... UIX... ACE! Relats amb cadira - apunts per tornar a començar, narrating the experiences of Bàrbara Vidal, a wheelchair-bound tennis player, and her participation in the 2004 Paralympics Games held in Athens.
At 12 noon the cinema hall will be projecting the film Slumdog Millionarie by Danny Boyle (2008), which will mark the end of the first cycle of accessible cinema sessions, begun in December and adapted for people with hearing, visual or mobility impairments.
