This competition seeks to bring together students from different courses and create a network of students and professionals.

This is a pioneering event that aims to strengthen the interest in this discipline among students of the degree in Criminology at the UAB and offer an academic and recreational experience to participants. It will include various theoretical and practical activities that will test the students' skills in criminology concepts and theories, in the argumentation of controversial issues, and in the resolution of criminal cases.

Students who have voluntarily enrolled and members of Alumni UAB will participate. In total, there will be 66 participants, divided into teams of six people, and eight lecturers, who will take on the role of presenters and judges. All tests will be given a score and the winning team will be the one with the most points. The event take place in the Aula Magna of the Faculty of Law from 3:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The Criminology Olympiad is organised by the UAB Faculty of Law and Alumni UAB.

The first test will consist of finding out who is guilty in a fictitious criminal case in which they will have to accuse each other and present arguments based on evidence to find the culprit. The second will involve arguing in short debates on issues with a criminology background, the third will be a quick quiz on criminology and, finally, the fourth test will require a demonstration of the mastery of criminological terminology, divided into four categories: “Words of criminology”, “What do I know about criminology?”, “Who is the culprit?” and “Criminological debate”.

According to the organisers, this competition seeks to bring together students from different courses and create a network between students and working professionals, members of Alumni UAB, to show students enrolled in the bachelor's degree in Criminology the various career opportunities offered by this discipline. For lecturer Josep Cid, coordinator of the degree in Criminology and the Olympiad, “it is an academic and, at the same time, entertaining way for students to enter the world of criminology”.

Josep Cid also points out that “the current true crime trend may have affected the interest in pursuing these studies, but it must be said that criminology is much more than that and is concerned with crime prevention and its treatment. However, we also prepare people who want to work in the police field, in criminal investigation”.

The bachelor's degree in Criminology offered by the UAB is a pioneering degree in Spain, since it was created in 2009, when there was still no university degree dedicated to this field of knowledge. The demand for these studies is high. In fact, to study Criminology, the UAB has the highest access grade in the Catalan university system. It currently has about 350 students studying either the bachelor's degree in Criminology or the double degree in Criminology and Law.
