The UAB invites international students to its Welcome Days
From 10 to 14 February, the UAB organises its Welcome Days. Become a UABer, an entire week of activities in which international students staying this semester at the UAB will discover student associations and services available on campus: from Catalan workshops and an international lunch, to astronomic observations and a trial class with the human tower-building castellers. Open to all international students, prior registration is required.
In this second semester, 580 international students will be joining the UAB. The countries from which most students come from are Italy, Germany and France, in that order. To make their arrival to university easier, during these days the UAB organises different welcome sessions and activities.
The UAB Cinema Hall will host the kick-off of the Welcome Days, organised by Dinamització Comunitària UAB, with the institutional welcome offered by the UAB Vice Rector for International Relations Oscar Jané Checa on Monday 10 February at 10:00 a.m.
The following day, 11 February, Idiomes UAB will offer a Catalan workshop from scratch at 1:00 p.m. to teach the first notions of Catalan to international students. And then, at 2 p.m., there will be a crochet workshop by the student collective Fem Ganxet. The same day at 4:00 p.m. the UAB Role Playing Club will open the toy library at 4:00 p.m. to play role playing games.
International cuisine will be the star of midday on Wednesday 12 February. At 1:00 p.m. there will be an international lunch, in which students will cook a typical dish from their country and share it with the rest of the students. In the afternoon, at 4:00 p.m., the Erasmus Student Network (ESN) will be presented in the Cinema Hall. And later, at 6:30 p.m., there will be an astronomical observation by the student collective Astro UAB, dedicated to astronomy.
The UAB casteller group, the Ganàpies, will rehearse on Thursday 13 February at 1:00 p.m. so that all international students can discover the casteller world firsthand. And the student collective ESN UAB Walk will offer a tour of the campus at 5:00 p.m.
On Friday at 2:00 p.m. there will be a Speed Tàndem activity, which will allow students to meet other UAB students. It will consist of talking for a maximum of five minutes with each participant.
Information sessions
At the same time, during the month of February, the International Support Service of the UAB organises the Welcome Sessions, which are information sessions to welcome international students joining the university in the second semester of this 2024/25 academic year. These are online welcome sessions held on Microsoft Teams that provide information on immigration procedures and other practical aspects to take into account during their stay in Barcelona, as well as first-hand information on International Support Service (ISS) and UAB services. Some UAB centres also organise welcome sessions for their international students.
