The UAB is sad to announce the death of Manuel Cachón
Manuel Cachón, professor of Procedural Law of the Department of Private Law, left us on 13 January 2025. The UAB sends its deepest condolences to his family and friends and to all the people who knew and appreciated him, and expresses its sorrow in losing a member of its community.
Manuel Cachón Cadenas developed his academic career at the UAB. He received his PhD in law in 1988 with an extraordinary doctorate award. He was professor of procedural law at the UAB since 1993. He was dean of the Faculty of Law (1996-1998) and director of the Department of Private Law (2000-2002).
His preferred lines of research were civil procedural enforcement, the history of Spanish procedural doctrine, general procedural theory and insolvency proceedings. He was principal investigator of projects such as “Civil procedural enforcement: national and international aspects” and “Procedural aspects of a creditors' competition".
He was the author of several works on Spanish proceduralists of the 20th century and provided legal advice to various public and private entities. He was also director of the UAB-CICAC Chair: Social and Economic Observatory of Justice, created in 2015 by agreement with the Catalan Bar Council.
On 10 May 2024, the Faculty of Law organised a special tribute for him in celebration of his retirement.
The Social Sciences Library dedicated an on-site and online exhibition to him to highlight his commitment to teaching and research, and his main academic and teaching contributions, including civil enforcement and seizure, and the history of procedural law and its protagonists.
