A total of 50 lecturers from the Catalan university system have been selected in the new call for ICREA Academia grants, 10 more than last year. With a total investment of 10 million euros, 2.5 million more than in the previous call, these grants from the Catalan Ministry for Research and Universities aim to contribute to intensify the research work of the teaching staff of Catalan universities.

The teaching staff selected in the 2024 call for ICREA grants will receive 40,000 euros per year for a period of 5 years. These grants are intended exclusively for lecturers doing research at the university and, in particular, those who are in a fully active and expanding phase of their research activity. In this way, the ICREA Academia aims to guarantee priority dedication to research activities during the five years of the programme.

Of the people selected, 12 are assigned to the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona: María José Vega Ramos, lecturer in the Department of Spanish Studies; Rafael Micó Pérez, from the Department of Prehistory; Joaquim Matias Espona, from the Department of Physics; Melinda Dooly Owenby, from the Department of Language and Literature Education and Social Science Education; Albert Guisasola Canudas, from the Department of Chemical, Biological and Environmental Engineering; Miquel-Àngel Garcia López, from the Department of Applied Economics; Ferran Martín Antolín, from the Department of Electronic Engineering; Carol Galais González, from the Department of Political Science and Public Law; José Luis Molina González, from the Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology; Fátima Bosch Tubert, from the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology; Antoni Verger Planells, from the Department of Sociology; and Gonzalo Seco Granados, from the Department of Telecommunications and Systems Engineering.

To be eligible for the ICREA Academy distinctions, teaching and research staff (PDI) of the universities of Catalonia must hold a doctoral degree, have a permanent and full-time contract, and lecture on a regular basis.
