Carlos Rodrigo Gonzalo de Liria and Joan Carles Ferreres Piñas awarded the CoMB Professional Excellence Award

UAB lecturers Carlos Rodrigo Gonzalo de Liria and Joan Carles Ferreres Piñas received the Professional Excellence Award from the Association of Physicians of Barcelona in the category of medical education.

Joan Carles Ferreres Piñas, lecturer in the Department of Morphological Sciences at the UAB and physician at the Parc Taulí Health Corporation Consortium, and Carlos Rodrigo Gonzalo de Liria, lecturer in the Department of Paediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynaecology and the Department of Preventive Medicine and Public Health at the UAB and physician at the Germans Trias i Pujol University Hospital, were awarded the Professional Excellence Award granted by the Association of Physicians of Barcelona (CoMB) in the category of medical education, in recognition of their professional careers, based on commitment, honesty, altruism, integrity and excellence.

Juan Carlos Farreres Piñas holds a degree in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Barcelona, Reus extension (1987), in the specialtiy of Pathological Anatomy (training between 1988 and 1991), and a PhD in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Cantabria (1993). Since 2006 he has been a medical lecturer in the Department of Morphological Sciences at the UAB Faculty of Medicine, initially at the Vall d'Hebron Teaching Unit and later at the Parc Taulí Teaching Unit.

Doctor Farreres focused on gynaecological and obstetric pathology at Hospital Parc Taulí between 1992 and 2004, and began to work in the field of developmental pathology (dysmorphology). Between 2004 and 2016 he worked at the Hospital Vall d'Hebron, where he continued in the field of obstetric and developmental pathology, and also dedicated his work to surgical paediatric pathology. Since 2016 he has been the director of the Anatomic Pathology Service at Hospital Parc Taulí, where he maintains his care work with greater dedication to aspects of service management and quality.

Carlos Rodrigo Gonzalo de Liria was a student of the 5th class of Medicine at the UAB (1972-1978), and between 1986 and 1993 he was lecturer of paediatrics at the Faculty of Medicine in the Teaching Unit of the Germans Trias i Pujol University Hospital. In 1990 he obtained his PhD in Medicine and Surgery from the UAB with a cum laude qualification. He has been a senior lecturer in the area of paediatrics at the Faculty of Medicine since 1994 and a became a full professor in 2023.

Dr Gonzalo de Liria was a specialist in paediatrics and paediatric childcare (via MIR) at the Vall d'Hebron Hospital between 1979 and 1982, and a specialist paediatric physician at the Germans Trias i Pujol University Hospital (1983). From 2000 to 2015 he held the position of head of the Paediatrics Service at the Germans Trias i Pujol University Hospital, and from 2015 to 2018 he was head of the Paediatrics Service and its specific areas at the Vall d'Hebron University Hospital. He is currently clinical director of Paediatrics at the Germans Trias i Pujol University Hospital, a position he has held since 2019.
