The UAB, the Spanish Ministry for Science, Innovation and Universities, the Catalan Ministry for Research and Universities, and other public universities in Catalonia have signed an agreement for the implementation of the María Goyri programme, aimed at incorporating new teaching and research talent.
The María Goyri programme for the incorporation of lecturing and research talent into public universities aims to improve the teaching and research quality of lecturing staff, favouring the renewal of faculty and research members and reducing temporality. The programme aims to invest a total of over 900 million euros in the following six years with the objective of creating 5,600 assistant lecturer positions in public universities around Spain, of which 1,168 will be created in Catalonia.
At the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, the programme will serve to create 156 new positions starting this year and defrayed by the Spanish Ministry for Science, Innovation and Universities. The Government of Catalonia will also defray an additional 102 positions, leading to a reduction in the temporality of assisstant lecturers and talent retention.
The agreement to implement the María Goyri programme was signed on 17 October by Spanish Minister for Science, Innovation and Universities, Diana Morant; Catalan Minister for Research and Universities, Núria Montserrat; and the rectors of Catalonia's public universities, including Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona's Rector Javier Lafuente.
