The UAB and PRUAB form part of a new Innovation Alliance in Sant Cugat del Vallès
The UAB and the UAB Parc de Recerca participated on 19 September in the signing of the new Innovation Alliance in Sant Cugat del Vallès. This agreement between the city council and some thirty companies and academic, technological and research institutions aims to consolidate the Vallès city as a leader in innovation and entrepreneurship, both locally and internationally.
The city council launches this alliance that brings together 32 founding members, to "mark the beginning of a new age in collaborations among the public sector, companies, entities and academic institutions". The alliance will be known internationally under the name of Barcelona Innovation Valley Alliance (BIVA).
At the signing event, UAB Rector Javier Lafuente highlighted that forming part of this alliance "is a great opportunity to transform this region into an international pole of attraction" and emphasised that "the UAB is a key agent in the transformation of this area into a model of smart, sustainable and inclusive development" based on "a well-articulated ecosystem made up of multiple agents" and on "fostering new innovation dynamics based on the collaboration, generation and valorisation of knowledge".
In addition to the UAB and the PRUAB, the alliance is formed by the ALBA Synchrotron, entities such as ACCIÓ, Biocat and the Mobile World Capital Barcelona Foundation, and multinational companies located in the region such as Hewlett Packard, Boehringer, GFT, Roche and Fluidra.
