Andreas Winter, professor in the Theoretical Physics Area of the Department of Physics at the UAB, was recently awarded a Hans Fischer Senior Fellowship by the Institute for Advanced Study of the Technical University of Munich (TUM). The fellowship will serve to fund his research stays and the resources necessary to develop a research project in the German university. The fellowship has a duration of three years and also includes funding for a PhD supervised by a research team at the TUM.

Andreas Winter earned his bachelor's degree in Mathematics from the Freie Universität Berlin in 1997 and his PhD two years later from the Faculty of Mathematics of Bielefeld University, Germany, where he worked as research associate until 2001. Later he became a research associate in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Bristol (Regne Unit), and became lecturer in Mathematics in 2003 and in 2006, professor in the Physics of Information.

In 2012 he was appinted research professor at ICREA, at the Quantum Information Group in the Department of Physics at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB). Professor Winter, alongside Charles H. Bennett, Igor Devetak, Aram W. Harrow and Peter W. Shor, was awarded the Information Theory Society Prize for the best research project published in 2017.
