Exhibition displays the treasures of La Draga

Exposició de La Draga al Museu d'Arqueologia de Catalunya

On 28 September the Museum of Archaeology of Catalonia (MAC) inaugurated an exhibition focusing on the Neolithic Revolution, entitled "La Revolució Neolítica. La Draga, el poblat dels prodigis". For the first time, visitors will be able to view original items recovered from the archaeological site and a virtual reconstruction of the prehistoric village.

The exhibition will allow visitors to understand the importance of La Draga, the only lake site in the Iberian Peninsula and one of the oldest and most important of all of Western Mediterranean. This was one of the first settlements in the northeast of the peninsula in which Neolithic farming societies settled some 7,300 years. They transformed the area which surrounded them in order to farm the land and raise the livestock needed for their existence. The most singular characteristic of the site is the state of conservation of the elements built using wood and other organic materials.

The exhibition will include for the first time the original pieces made with organic materials and other objects which have been discovered in different dig campaigns, conducted by a multidisciplinary team formed by scientists of the Museum of Archaeology of Catalonia, the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, the Spanish National Research Council (IMF) and the Banyoles Regional Archaeological Museum. It will also include a virtual reconstruction of the settlement, which has been created as part of a Recercaixa project funded by the Obra Social “La Caixa” and the Catalan Association of Public Universities (ACUP).
