First face-to-face meeting of the SMART-ER project
On 4 and 5 November, the UAB hosted the first face-to-face meeting of the institutional project “ECIU University Research Institute for Smart European Regions” (SMART-ER) at the COMTEC Centre, with the participation of all universities implementing the project.

After 9 months implementing the first project tasks, participants had the opportunity of reflecting upon the ECIU University’s road map and its relation with the SMART-ER project, the methodology of Challenge-Based Research and the Researcher Journey within the project’s framework. They were also able to focus on the creation process of the ECIU University’s future SMART-ER Virtual Research Institute and define the totality of the Research and Innovation agenda of ECIU University and SMART-ER.
The SMART-ER Project
The ECIU University Research Institute for Smart European Regions (SMART-ER) is a research, innovation and education strong alliance, enabling all 12 ECIU University member institutions jointly to address complex societal challenges under the framework of the UN SDG11 (Sustainable cities and communities).
Jointly, the institutions will pilot capacity building programmes (Seed Programme and SMART-ER Academy) and citizen science initiatives that will be used as a testbed to put into practice all the mechanisms and structures built.
