Alumnes a les olimpiades del 2023

The UAB Faculty of Biosciences will be hosting the Biology Olympics of Catalonia on 3 and 7 February. The UAB will be the Barcelona headquarter, with headquarters also set up on the same day in Girona, Tarragona, Lleida and Vic. On 3 February, 144 students from the towns in the Barcelona region will arrive to the UAB for the theoretical test. The top 20 students in each of the regions will then all come together and undergo a practical test at the UAB on 7 February.

The main objective of the Biology Olympics of Catalonia is to encourage the interest of high school students in the study of biology and to publicly recognise their efforts. This 14th edition is designed to evaluate the official syllabus of the first and second year of upper secondary school, covering a wide range of issues related to biology, such as the conservation of biodiversity, biotechnology and the environmental and social implications of science.

On Saturday morning, 3 February, the theoretical test will take place, in which 144 students in the second year of upper secondary school will have to answer a questionnaire with fifty questions that will test their knowledge in the field of biology.

After that, the top twenty students from the different Catalan regions will have the opportunity to demonstrate their skills in the practical test, which involves solving problems, performing experiments and interpreting results. The practical test will take place on Wednesday 7 February in the afternoon at the Faculty of Biosciences.

Finally, the students with the highest scores will be given the chance to participate in the national phase, the Spanish Biology Olympics, which this year will take place from 18 to 21 April at the University of Valencia.

The UAB hosts this event every two years, as it alternates with the UB. Last year the UAB campus hosted the Spanish Biology Olympics.
