On Friday, November 17 at 12:00, the Faculty of Biosciences of the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) hosted the conference 'Genomifying Neotropical Species', given by the renowned researcher Dr. Camila Mazzoni, from the IZW (Leibniz Institute for Zoo and Wildlife Research, Germany). The event took place in the Faculty's Assembly Hall.

Camila Mazzoni obtained her PhD in Cell and Molecular Biology at the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil), where she studied the molecular evolution of clock genes, related to circadian rhythm, analyzing hybridization patterns in Leishmaniosis vectors insects. He did postdoctoral stays at the Max Planck Institute (Germany) and the University of Cork (Ireland) and, since 2010, he is leader of the Evolutionary and Conservation Genomics group at the IZW and co-leader of the Berlin Center for Genomics in Biodiversity Research (BeGenDiv). Finally, Dr. Mazzoni also leads the Genome Stream in the European Biodiversity Genomics Europe project and co-leads the Genotropics Consortium of experts in the genomic study of neotropical species

The event has been organized by Aurora Ruiz-Herrera, associate professor of the Department of Cell Biology, Physiology and Immunology and the Institute of Biotechnology and Biomedicine (IBB), with the collaboration of the Faculty of Biosciences of the UAB.

The students and professors of the Faculty who attended the event had the opportunity to know the most recent results obtained in the research on genomic evolution of neotropical species and to understand the latest advances in this fascinating field of evolutionary biology.

We are very grateful to Dr Camila Mazzoni for her visit!
