The Faculties of Sciences and Biosciences explain the Nobel Prizes in 2023
On December 12th, the Faculties of Sciences and Biosciences celebrated the commemorative event of the Nobel Prizes in the Assembly Hall.

In this event, three professors from both faculties explained the development, context and importance of the discoveries that were awarded with the Nobel Prizes in Chemistry, Physics and Medicine or Physiology in 2023. Below you will find a detailed description of the event:
15:00h – Presentation of the event by Dr. Isidre Gibert Gonz'lez, dean of the Faculty of Biosciences, Dr. Juan Jesús Donaire Benito, dean of the Faculty of Sciences and Dr. Sònia Casillas Viladerrams, vice-dean of Students and Employability of the Faculty of Biosciences of the UAB.
15:15 – In commemoration of the Nobel Prize in Physics, the conference Attoseconds: shortening time, given by Dr. Anna Sanpera Trigueros, ICREA Professor at the Department of Physics of the Faculty of Sciences.
The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences awarded the 2023 Nobel Prize in Physics to Pierre Agostini, Ferenc Krausz and Anne l'Huillier, for the development of tools that allow studying the ultra-fast displacement of electrons within atoms.
15:35 – In commemoration of the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, the conference The Lessened Research of RNA as a therapeutic molecule, by Dr. Jaume Pi'ol Ribas, from the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology of the Faculty of Biosciences.
The Karolisnka Institute awarded the 2023 Nobel Prize in Medicine or Physiology to Katalin Karikó and Drew Weissman, for the development of messenger RNA technology and its application in RNA vaccines against COVID.
16:55 – In commemoration of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry, the conference semiconductor nanoparticles: A Nobel colored by quantum effects of size, by Dr. Javier Rodríguez Viejo of the Department of Physics of the Faculty of Sciences.
The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2023 to Moungi Bawendi, Louis Brus and Alexei Ekimov for their research on light-diffusing nanoparticles that can guide surgeons when they remove tumor tissue.
