The UAB signs an agreement to continue developing the Chair in Entrepreneurship and Social Innovation

La UAB signa un acord amb ajuntaments i consells comarcals per seguir desenvolupant la Càtedra en Em

The UAB signed an agreement with the county councils of Vallès Occidental and Vallès Oriental, and with the town councils of Cerdanyola del Vallès, Mollet del Vallès and Montornès del Vallès for the development, over the next few years, of the Chair in Entrepreneurship and Social Innovation. Among other activities, the chair - which also includes the Barcelona Provincial Council and is attached to the Centre for Studies and Research in Entrepreneurship and Social Innovation (CREIS) of the UAB - awards the Eines Awards every year in recognition of activities under the framework of the United Nations' 17 sustainable development goals.

The signing ceremony, which took place today at the UAB Rectorat building, was attended by the rector of the UAB, Javier Lafuente; the presidents of the county councils of Vallès Occidental, Ignasi Giménez, and Vallès Oriental, Emilio Cordero; the mayors of Mollet del Vallès, Mireia Dionisio, and Montornés del Vallès, José Montero; the councillor of University and City of Knowledge of the City Council of Cerdanyola del Vallès, Concepción Martínez; and the vice-president and councillor of Economic Promotion and Labour of the County Council of Vallès Occidental, Xavier Garcés.

Rector Lafuente described this project as “a success” in terms of the collaboration of the UAB with the administrations of its surroundings. He also praised “the impact” it generates in society and thanked Professor Hèctor Sala, of the Department of Applied Economics, for his work in promoting this project. Sala, for his part, valued that, with the signing of this agreement, the Chair moves into “a new phase of consolidation and growth” and thanked “the very strong commitment” of the administrations for this project, dedicating a special word to the “new agents” that are added in this agreement: the municipalities of Cerdanyola and Montornès del Vallès.

The main purpose of the Chair in Entrepreneurship and Social Innovation is the “research and promotion of this area of knowledge”, working closely with the local environment and the network of social enterprises in Catalonia. Each year it organises the Eines Awards for the best social transformation projects, publishes the yearbook on entrepreneurship, economy and social innovation, and promotes the transfer of knowledge through initiatives such as the Master's Degree in Entrepreneurship and Social Innovation.

This past October, the fourth edition of the Eines Awards took place, which distinguished three Catalan, Vallès and local projects. The winners were the projects REVIVE, Retícula and Obrador de pastisseria del Centre Ocupacional del Bosc, committed, respectively, to the cognitive rehabilitation of the elderly through immersive virtual reality, inclusive visual representation, and labour integration of people with mental disabilities through pastry making. The awards carry a cash prize of 2,500 euros each. Future editions of the awards ceremonies are scheduled to take place in Cerdanyola del Vallès, Montornès del Vallès and Mollet del Vallès.
