Content Official Master's Degree in Terrestrial Ecology and Biodiversity Management
Master description
This master's degree comprises 60 credits and is taught full-time over one academic year, and part-time over two years. The master's degree is divided into two specialisations:
- Terrestrial Ecology
- Management and Diversity of Fauna and Flora
There are 24 compulsory credits common to the two specialisations. These are distributed over three modules: The module "Statistics and Environmental Modelling" (12 ECTS), which offers an advanced methodological basis for numerical data analysis and modelling applied to environmental biology, and two modules with contents that cut across the whole master's degree syllabus ("Space Ecology" and "Bases for the Conservation and Management of Biodiversity", both for 6 ECTS).
The specialisation in "Terrestrial Ecology" takes a broader view, focusing on the general ecological processes that determine the state of terrestrial ecosystems. In this specialisation special emphasis is placed on providing students with new tools and skills for acquiring knowledge.
The specialisation in "Management and Diversity of Fauna and Flora" aims to produce professionals (whether in research or not) who can identify, interpret, and manage biodiversity, including terrestrial and aquatic fauna and flora. The focus is on topics like the state of conservation of animal and plant diversity, its management, and the various applications of fauna in the framework of environmental biology.
For the sake of efficiency, no optional subjects are offered in any of the specialisations, each specialisation having three specific academic modules, all compulsory. Finally, both specialisations contain a module devoted to the "Master's dissertation" (15 ECTS).
