POST-DOCTORAL RESEARCHER - SOCIETAL CHALLENGE CONSUMPTION (2021DILEUA32)

Contract duration: 2 years, Full-time position.
Job description
ICTA-UAB is seeking a postdoctoral fellow to develop a research project related to the Societal Challenge CONSUMPTION, which aims to examine how the processes of production and consumption of goods and services relate to the resource use and the resulting environmental impacts during their lifespan and how they affect to technological transitions and to human well-being. The postdoctoral researcher will work in collaboration with the theme leaders (Mario Giampietro, Xavier Gabarrell) and senior members of the research teams involved in the challenge.
Job responsibilities
The post-doctoral fellow will lead and coordinate at least two or three of the following activities:
- To develop a conceptual framework capable of characterizing the meaning of “good quality of life” by integrating attributes observable only across different scales and dimensions
- To update Life Cycle inventories by ensuring the maintenance of the LCADB database and the Database of Semiconductors and other components (DOSE)
- To develop a toolkit establishing a bridge across a set of quantitative indicators associated with the quality of life and changes determined by the transition in the external factors in the society that can affect the viability and desirability of the functioning of the society
- To determine new resource depletion and environmental pressures indicators and metrics to inform energy models.
Qualification and skills
The ideal candidate will hold a PhD in Sustainability Science or closely related field (e.g., Environmental science, Engineering).
Required skills: database management and scientific programming, Website Management, Data visualization (with Python, Tableau, D3.js, or near equivalents), high level of English knowledge
Desirable skills: Experience in the analysis of the primary sector and electronic components, Familiarity with practice theory applied to the quantitative characterization of social practices inside modern societies.
Valuable working experience: Empirical work of quantitative analysis of patterns of production and consumption of goods and services; familiarity with multiscale integrated analysis of societal
metabolism and life cycle assessment
