The documentary #comsomcomensveuen (whatwe’relikehowtheyseeus), a production of the Graduate School of Archives and Records Management and the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona Foundation, is one of the finalists in the second edition of the Section of Professional Associations (SPA) Film Festival under the auspices of the International Council on Archives (ICA), the principal international institution in the archive world.

At the beginning of August, the competition—for which 58 audiovisual proposals were accepted—published the shortlist of the three finalist films in the four available categories. The proposal submitted by the Graduate School, selected for the “Best Film explaining the relevance and importance of Archives and Records management”, is also one of the audiovisual works opting for the People’s Award, which can be voted for until October 23. The winners will be announced during the closing ceremony at the annual ICA Conference in Adelaide on Thursday 24 October 2019.

The film is the result of the Master's Degree Project developed by Gerard Vilanova (from Sabadell, Catalonia), a graduate of the School’s Master's Degree in Archives and Records Management. The former student was awarded the UAB Alumni prize by the UAB’s Centre for University-Entrepreneur Initiatives (CIEU) last November for the “Best Entrepreneurial Idea, 2018” for TIC ACTIVA (Active ICT), an initiative in digital-education training.

#comsomcomensveuen is a production from the fields of marketing and communication that aims to make visible and to improve the image of archiving, of archives and of the professional group of archivists in general, as well as the work they carry out in the ambits of public administration, electronic administration, historical archives, heritage or digital transformation.  The film also presents testimonies from members and representatives of associations and organisations from within the archive world.

The School publicised the documentary in March and April 2019 through its release in the #Archive30 campaign, promoted by the National Records of Scotland, where comments relating to the world of archives were tweeted throughout the month.

The University of Alcalá (Madrid) is the other institution from Spain shortlisted for an award, in this case the “Best Film using Humour to communicate about Archives or Records Management”. Among the other finalists, there are works from countries such as Italy, France, Poland, Germany, Scotland, Norway or China.
