Antonio González Quintana, who taught on the last course on Human Rights Archives of our school, is one of the authors of the book “Archives and Human Rights” (Routledge), whose first edition comes out in English in April.

The book gives a theoretical review of the use of archives to prove human rights violations, and the emerging international debate on the relationship between archives and human rights and the principles of the right to truth, justice and reparations.

It offers case studies of different world regions where these principles have been addressed and it recounts the evolution of the figure of the archivist and his or her active role in defending human rights.

González Quintana is a historian and archivist and currently presides over the Spanish Association of Civil Service Archivists. He is also president of the Archives and Human Rights Section of the International Council on Archives (ICA), and an active member of the NGO Archivists without Borders

Other contributors to this book are the French archivist Perrine Canavaggio, director of the Archives of the Presidency of the French Republic from 1974 to 1994 and joint secretary general of ICA from 2001 to 2009, and Jens Boel, a Danish archivist and historian who headed the UNESCO Archives from 1995 to 2017 and was a member of the International Organisations Section of ICA from 2000 to 2004 and from 2008 to 2012.

The first edition of the book, which is in English, will be published in April by Routledge publishers. Until then, there is a free digital version available for downloading. French and Spanish versions of the book are expected to be published in two years.
