School Faculty, Speakers at the 18th Edition of the Image and Research Conference in Girona

Jornades d'Arxivística a Girona

This November, from the 20th to the 23rd, the 18th edition of the Image and Research Conference (Antoni Varés Conference) will take place, aiming to reflect on and share knowledge and experiences related to various aspects of photographic and audiovisual heritage management. These conferences have been organized by the Centre for Image Research and Diffusion (CRDI) of the Girona City Council since 1990, every two years.

26/07/2024

The CRDI, founded in 1997 and taking over the conference organization from the City Council in 2000, specifically manages and preserves sound and image documents (photographs, films, videos, etc.) produced by the Girona City Council. It also preserves collections and archives from individuals, companies, and entities within the municipality, ensuring the conservation of archives from professional photographers, written press, local radio and television, as well as images from amateurs, and personal and family archives.

This year's conference presents a format change compared to previous editions. The schedule will be divided into four thematic blocks, spread over the morning and afternoon, each featuring two presentations and discussions on the topic. The 3rd block will also include a debate panel.

  • Block 1: How do we use technology?
  • Block 2: How do we reach the public?
  • Block 3: What are the business strategies?
  • Block 4: What is the current state of conservation and historical research?

This edition will feature the participation of David Iglesias, director and academic coordinator of the Specialization Diploma in Photographic Archive Management, Preservation, and Diffusion. Additionally, presentations, moderating, or workshops will be conducted by faculty members Fina Navarrete, Bernardo Riego, and Sergi Griñó, as well as Pau Saavedra, academic coordinator and instructor of the Specialization Diploma in Audiovisual and Sound Document Management and Preservation. They will be found in Block 2, Block 3, and Workshop 2.

The presentations will be held at the Girona Conference Center Auditorium, while the workshops will take place at the Centre for Image Research and Diffusion. Check the conference program (click the link).
