Presentation of IurisLab-Legal Clinic and Round Table on the Legal Capacity of People with Disabilities
On 3 December, the Faculty of Law at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) hosted the presentation of the IurisLab-Legal Clinic and its first legal forum to mark the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. The event featured a round table titled ‘The Exercise of Legal Capacity by People with Disabilities.’

The event began at 10:00 am with an introduction to the IurisLab-Legal Clinic project, an initiative to promote university social responsibility. IurisLab provides law students with an opportunity for active learning and practical training through a clinical methodology, allowing them to be integrated into a supportive and dynamic environment.
The presentation featured contributions from:
- Dr Ricard Esteban Legarreta, vice dean for academic planning, Law+Droit, and Master's Programmes at UAB
- Dr Josep Cañabate Pérez, director of IurisLab-Legal Clinic
- Dr Santiago Robert Guillén, secretary of the institution
- Dr Maria Barcons Campmajó, economic affairs officer.
This session helped to know the objectives, services, and future projects of the Legal Clinic, while also highlighting the importance of involving students in real-life cases that contribute to social well-being.
At 10:30 am, coinciding with the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, a round table titled ‘The Exercise of Legal Capacity by People with Disabilities’ started as the first Legal Forum of IurisLab. The session aimed to address the challenges and progress in ensuring the rights of people with disabilities.
The round table was introduced by Dr Glòria Ortega Puente, professor of Civil Law at UAB and member of the IurisLab-Legal Clinic.
Participants included:
- Dr Antoni Milian Massana, emeritus lecturer of Administrative Law at UAB, who will provide insights on homelessness
- Dr Xavier Puigdollers Noblon, lawyer, adjunct lecturer of Constitutional Law at UAB, and chairman of the Disability Rights Commission of the ICAB, will share his legal expertise and advocacy experiences
- Mr Joan Maria Sala Clos, acting president of the Association Of Relatives Of People With Behavioural Disorders (AFATRAC)
- Mr Jordi Durà Mena, board member of the DINCAT Federation and representative of the Family Participation Councilwill offer perspectives from familial and associative experiences.
The session was moderated by Dr Ricard Esteban Legarreta, who also provided his perspective as an expert in disability and labour law.
This event offered a unique opportunity to reflect on the importance of ensuring the full exercise of legal rights by people with disabilities and to encourage dialogue among academics, professionals, families, and organizations dedicated to the cause.
