Give your old mobile a second life with FAS!

Did you know that your old mobile phone can help protect the environment and save primates? The Fundació MONA is a non-profit organisation dedicated to the rescue and protection of endangered primates. The foundation has set up a network of recycling boxes, with one set up at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona.

Every cell phone contains coltan, a mineral mined mainly in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The extraction of this mineral is the cause of material smuggling, armed conflicts and damage to endangered species.
To combat this problem, the MONA Foundation created a recycling boxes initiative in 2005, with the aim of recovering the components of old mobile phones to reduce the need to extract new natural resources. This initiative is part of the “Recycle your phone, save lives” campaign, a partnership that supports primate and space conservation projects and promotes environmental protection. As part of this action, last year the UAB collected 13 mobile phones, thus contributing to this solidarity cause.
If you have a phone you no longer use, give it a second life and take it to the recycling box of the Fundació Autònoma Solidària, located in the Plaça Cívica of the UAB, from Monday to Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and on Fridays from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. In this way, you will contribute to a more sustainable and supportive future.
