Event details

The UAB's AFIN research group, in collaboration with the "la Caixa" Social Observatory, organises a series entitled "Trenquem el silenci: parlem del dol" [Breaking the Silence: let's talk about mourning] which will take place on 21 and 28 September. The conference will take place at Palau Macaya in Barcelona under the scientific direction of Diana Marre, Director of AFIN and lecturer in the UAB Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology.

The first session will be held on 21 September at 6 p.m., and will focus on what mourning is and why it is such a delicate topic ("Què és el dol? Per què és difícil reconèixer-ho i parlar-ne?"). Guest speakers will include José Ramón Ubieto, psychologist and psychoanalyst; Anna Freixas, writer; Marie Rose Moro, psychiatric doctor; and Silvia Fernández, founder of the Fundació Art Pal·liatiu. Journalist Carina Farreras will be moderating the debate.

The second session, to be held on 28 September at 6 p.m., is entitled "Pèrdues diverses, duels diversos. Estratègies per detectar i afrontar el dol" and will offer strategies on how to detect and deal with mourning. Guest speakers will include Xusa Serra, President of GestDol, Servei d'Atenció al Dol; Elisa Llurba, Head of the Gynaecology, Obstetrician and Assisted Reproduction Service at the Sant Pau Hospital; and Joan Carles Mèlich, lecturer in the UAB Department of Educational Theories and Social Pedagogy. Journalist Marc Serrano will be moderating the debate.
