Helena Cruz and Oriol Nel·lo to inaugurate the 2024/25 academic year at the Faculty of Arts & Humanities

Helena Cruz, co-director of the urban planning firm Territorisxlm, and Oriol Nel-lo, lecturer in the Department of Geography at the UAB, will conduct a dialogue on “Spatial planning: a tool for environmental sustainability and social justice” at the opening ceremony of the new academic year of the Faculty of Arts & Humanities, which will take place on 15 October at 11:30 am, in the UAB Auditorium. The event will be chaired by the rector of the UAB, Javier Lafuente, and the dean of the Faculty, Margarita Freixas.

Following that, Roser Pleixats will receive the Ad studia humanitatis fovenda award (created by the faculty to distinguish annually a person and an institution for their defense of the values of humanities' studies or for their collaboration in the development of the centre's research studies) in individual modality. A posthumous award will also go to Josep Vendrell, professor of biochemistry who was vice rector of Organisation and dean of the Faculty of Biosciences. And, as for the distinction to groups and institutions, the award will go to the co-founders of the Women Dialogues Intercultural Association, Mercè Amor and Fàtima Ahmed. At the event, the 6th Award for Teaching Excellence of the Faculty of Arts & Humanities will also be presented to Montserrat Amores, professor of the Department of Spanish Studies, “for her advanced teaching of text commentary tasks to students”.
