The RAWMINA project will be holding its closing ceremony in Barcelona. The event, co-organised by LEITAT and the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, ​will serve as an interactive showcase and offers a valuable opportunity to meet with top professionals and create connections, learn from expert speakers and cutting-edge presentations, and discover the latest advances in critical raw material recovery and resource efficiency.

RAWMINA Project

The European Union is facing increasing challenges regarding the supply of critical raw materials (CRM) that are essential for the energy transition; both for the development of renewable energies and for new energy storage systems. To address these challenges, the RAWMINA project was launched in 2021 with the objective of developing an innovative pilot system of sustainable and efficient processes to extract these essential materials from existing mine waste resources.

RAWMINA consists of an international consortium of 19 specialised partners from 10 EU countries, the UK and South America. The project is funded by Horizon-Europe with 9 million euros.

Sara Marañón holds a PhD in Ecology and her research focuses on the effects of global change and the disturbances caused to ecosystems. At the UAB Science Carriage Expert's Seat, she will converse with passengers on regenerative agriculture, which aims to replenish the soil and guarantee that it has enough organic material and carbon to help it continue to be fertile land. Regenerative agriculture is based on the basic pillars of agriculture: soil and its quality, and how this relates to its capacity to store or release CO2.

The journey will begin at 10:42 a.m. on the FGC train travelling from the Universitat Autònoma to the Plaça Catalunya station.

Off the Archeological record is based on the study predoctoral researcher Paloma Zarzuela is conducting in her doctoral thesis, “A history of archaeology. An analysis of the social dynamics and female experiences in the discipline (1975-2020)”, within the framework of the PhD programme in Prehistoric Archaeology at the UAB.

The documentary, directed by Katia Calmet Valle, narrates the recent past of the discipline of archaeology from a gender perspective. Through the personal experiences of very diverse female archaeologists, it analyses the inequalities that are still entrenched and addresses issues such as precariousness, specialisation, motherhood or leadership, factors that influence the continuity (or not) of professional careers.

The event is free and open to the general public.

Bernat Claramunt is a researcher at CREAF and lecturer of Ecology at the UAB. His research focuses on strategies for sustainable development of mountain socio-ecological systems, with a holistic approach that includes not only the natural components of a region, but also its social and economic context. In the expert's seat he will talk with passengers about how climate change modifies these mountain systems and the ecosystem services and the benefits that humans obtain.

On 12 November at 6 p.m. the Palau Macaya in Barcelona will present the K-Lab platform in an event entitled The Rise of Popular Korean Culture as a Global Phenomenon. This platform brings together articles, dissemination contents and activities related to South Korea, promoted by the Casa Àsia and the UAB research group GREGAL, with the aim of contributing to the creation of a dynamic and rigorous space for information. It will offer specialised knowledge and analysis of the relations between Spain and South Korea in different sectors: public diplomacy, culture and language, society, economics and technology.

Jang Hyuncheol, Minister and General Consul of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea, and Javier Parrondo, Director General of Casa Àsia, will inaugurate the event, in which several specialists in the areas of communication, East Asian studies, and the economy will speak on the Korean phenomenon and relations with South Korea. The UAB Theatre Hall offers a new edition of the "Veus" conference series with the aim of sharing trangressive and inspiring knowledge generated by the UAB with the general public.

Seven speakers will participate in the series, with talks on a variety of subjects such as transforming Co₂ into a useful resource with which to create sustainable bioplastics, disinformation and disconnection between public debate and research, the standardisation of working regulations, and communication in healthcare centres between doctors and patients who do not speak Catalan or Spanish.
