Call for Papers - Green Digital Accessibility Conference: bridging sustainability and accessibility in the green transition

 

TransMedia Catalonia is pleased to announce the call for papers for the third edition of The Green Digital Accessibility (GDA) conference, set to take place in Barcelona, Spain, from December 2 to 3, 2024. This event will bring together leaders, researchers, industry professionals, policymakers, educators, and activists to explore groundbreaking research and real-world practices at the intersection of sustainability and accessibility in the digital age.

As the world grapples with the pressing challenges of climate change and technological evolution, the GDA 2024 conference will delve into the critical task of building a sustainable and inclusive digital future. The conference serves as a pivotal forum for discussions on innovative research and practical solutions spanning technology, communication, environmental science, and education.

The conference will explore the transformative potential of digital innovation in mitigating climate change and enhancing accessibility, while simultaneously addressing concerns about the environmental impact of emerging technologies. Topics of discussion will include remote working, teleconferencing, smart transport, and their implications for climate change and accessibility. The conference aims to ensure that as we progress, we do not leave behind vulnerable groups, such as people with disabilities, indigenous communities, and refugees.

Key questions guiding the conference discussions include:

• How can technological advances contribute to climate change mitigation without compromising environmental sustainability?
• What measures can be taken to avoid widening social inequities in the wake of digital innovation?
• In what ways can we guarantee the inclusion and dignity of those affected and displaced by climate change?

The GDA 2024 conference emphasizes the need to bridge the gap between sustainability and accessibility. It calls for submissions that explore future transformations in the digital realm, with a particular focus on the role of accessibility. Topics of interest include theoretical frameworks and intersectionality, perspectives on sustainability and accessibility, design and technology, and education and communication.

This year’s conference will feature a hybrid format, allowing both online and in-person participation. Paper presentations and interactive workshops will be integral components, with presentations limited to 15 minutes to facilitate in-depth discussions during dedicated panel sessions. Workshops, designed for interactive engagement, will be limited to 45 minutes.

Submission Guidelines:

• Abstracts should not exceed 500 words, including bibliographic references.
• Conference language is English.
