The Erasmus+ ATHENA project (Bringing Accessibility and Design for All into Higher Education Curricula) has held its second transnational meeting at the Faculty of Translation and Interpreting of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. The project – led by the European Disability Forum and comprised of Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, European University Cyprus (Cyrpus), Johannes Kepler University Linz (Austria), Masaryk University (Czech Republic) and EURASHE (Belgium) – aims to support the inclusion of accessibility and universal design in Higher Education.
This one-and-a-half-day meeting, hosted by the TransMedia Catalonia research group, recapped on the first stage of the project. This stage is devoted to analysing the inclusion of accessibility in current university curricula and syllabi. The partners worked on finalising a transnational report and on planning the next activities. The next activities consist of focus groups with accessibility experts and co-designing sessions, which will lead to a set of recommendations and sample modules. The ultimate aim is to share these documents with individuals, institutions and bodies involved in curriculum design, as well as enablers of mainstreaming accessibility in the HE curricula.
