Olga Torres elected new dean of the Faculty of Translation and Interpreting

Olga Torres, lecturer of the Department of Translation and Interpreting & East Asian Studies, was recently elected dean of the Faculty of Translation and Interpreting.

Olga Torres, lecturer of the Department of Translation and Interpreting & East Asian Studies, was recently elected dean of the Faculty of Translation and Interpreting. She will be accompanied by Pilar Sánchez Gijón, Anna Gil, Anna Matamala, and Nazir Ahmed Can.

The Faculty Board unanimously elected Olga Torres as new dean of the faculty. She and her team came into office on 1 June in a ceremony in which Albert Branchadell, dean of the faculty from 2016 to 2022, officially gave way to the new directing team. The ceremony was also held in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the UAB's translation and interpreting courses.

The members of the dean's team are Pilar Sánchez Gijón, Secretary and Vice Dean for Academic Studies; Anna Gil, Vice Dean for Students and Promotion; Anna Matamala, Vice Dean for Academic Quality and Regulations; Nazir Ahmed Can, Vice Dean for Internationalisation and Professionalisation; Jordi Mas, Coordinator of the Bachelor's Degree in Translation and Interpreting; Mireia Vargas, Coordinator of the Bachelor's Degree in Spanish and Chinese Studies; Esther Torres, Coordinator of the Bachelor's Degree in East Asian Studies; Blai Guarné, Coordinator of the Master's Degree in Global East Asian Studies; Marta Arumí, Coordinator of the Master's Degree in Conference Interpreting; Patricia Rodríguez, Coordinator of the Master's Degree in Translation and Intercultural Studies; Carme Mangiron, Coordinator of hte Master's Degree in Audiovisual Translation; and Pilar Cid, Coordinator of the Master's Degree in Tradumatics: Translation Technologies.

UAB Lecturer Since 2000

Olga Torres Hostench earned her degee in Translation and Interpreting from the UAB (1994). In 2007, she was awarded a special prize for her PhD in Theory of Translation for her thesis on employment opportunities for translation postgraduates. She is currently professor at the Facutly of Translation and Interpreting. Before lecturing at the UAB, she had worked translating online contents for European and North American companies. Until now, she has been the coordinator of the Master's Degree in Tradumatics: Translation Technologies.

She also coordinates the SGR Tradumàtica research group and in the past twenty years she has participated actively in several state-wide and European projects on translation and technologies. She was the main researcher of four state-run projects on translation technologies, and this summer will be the last one in which she coordinates the Eurorean MultitraiNMT project on machine translation.
